lent update

27 02 2007

as posted last week, i have given up watching tv in my room before i go to bed. it has been almost a week, and it is going really well. the quiet at night has helped me not only helped me to sleep better but also gives me time to hear from the Lord. one of the reasons i gave this up is to face my fear of the quiet and darkness at night. i know it sounds silly but all those “house” noises really freak me out. facing this head on is a good feeling. as always the Lord has provided for my every need. can’t wait to see what the Lord transforms in me over the next several weeks.

lent???

19 02 2007

i have never understood what lent is really all about so i began doing some research last week to learn about this period that begins 40 days before easter. By the way that means that lent begins this wednesday february 21. i found this informative description on a website the other day.

“Lent is a season of soul-searching and repentance. It is a season for reflection and taking stock. Lent originated in the very earliest days of the Church as a preparatory time for Easter, when the faithful rededicated themselves and when converts were instructed in the faith and prepared for baptism. By observing the forty days of Lent, the individual Christian imitates Jesus’ withdrawal into the wilderness for forty days.”

lent is usually marked by the fasting from something for the 40 day period leading up to easter. i am going to participate in lent for the first time this year. my usual routine means that i fall asleep with the tv on every night which is a long standing habit for a myriad of reasons. the lord has led me to give that up for lent. not sure what he has in store for me, but i can’t wait to find out.

are you participating in lent? if so, what are you giving up?
