i’ve been taking time to catch up on my reading through the bible. i was about a week behind. got caught up and in the process got a clear view of the just side of god. i started reading in jeremiah and i pretty sure i’d never read long portions of this book. i’m through chapt 19 and so far the book is all about how god is going to bring destruction on the nation of israel because they refuse to obey and listen to him. it’s such a clear picture of the just side of god in that he has to punish sin. i tend to think of god as merciful and full of grace which he is, but there is this other side of his character. jeremiah pleads for the people but god says he will not hear because they refuse to obey. may i never live like that…knowing the truth and being outright rebellious! scary place to be! this has gotten me thinking about how the justice and mercy of god go together. it’s a big concept that i’m not sure i’ll ever completely understand. how do you reconcile these 2 aspects of god’s character?

A Thanksgiving Prayer
21 11 2007“Offer to God thanksgiving, and pray your vows to the Most High” – Psalm 50:14
Father, we give thanks this day for all the blessings you have given to us, your children. We thank you for our families, friends, for providing for our every need, everyday – all good gifts come from you.
We thank you during the difficult times, too, because if they never came then we wouldn’t know just how capable you are of seeing us through them. Even in the mist our struggles we are joyful because you are here with us. You are near to those whose hearts are broken. You are our strength and our refuge and your grace is sufficient to see us through every trial.
Most of all we thank you for sending your Son to die on the cross for our sins. We are continually amazed that you would go through so much just so you would be able to call us “your children”.
You are the great Lord Of Hosts and we are just simple people. How could we ever repay you for the kindness you’ve shown us? We never could. We have only one thing we can offer you — our heart-filled thanks.
In Jesus name we pray,
Amen

all about the food
20 11 2007
thanksgiving more than any other holiday is about the food. families and friends gather around a table to give thanks and share an unbelievable meal. my personal favorites that i enjoy seeing on the table:
- turkey- dark meat only!
- stuffing- especially the crunchy part
- green bean casserole
what are you looking forward to seeing on the table????
